Alternate Watering System

The Lake of the Prairies Conservation District will assist Applicants in altering or creating watering and/or grazing systems on a cost-share basis.

Program Objectives

To protect surface and groundwater resources from contamination
To maximize available grazing land by providing water source where none had existed
To protect riparian areas adjacent to surface water courses

Eligibility

  • One application per joint title or family operation will be honored
  • Location of alternate watering system must be on lands within the Lake of the Prairies Conservation District
  • The project must clearly display a conservation benefit (Such as removing cattle from watering on creeks or rivers; sole dugouts are not eligible for reimbursement).

Terms & Conditions

Applicant Responsibility

  • Complete project by September 30th in the year of application. Circumstances preventing project completion by September 30th must be reported to the Lake of the Prairies Conservation District Board.
  • LPCD may offer to extend funding until December 31st, based on landowner circumstances.
  • Coordinate complete project with technical assistance from LPCD;
  • Pay all costs associated with project and then submit paid receipts
  • Submit completed application including copy of paid receipts. Receipts must indicate date, type and location of material purchased.
  • Project material may not be sold or traded.
  • Completed project must remain in place for 5 years;
  • Allow for access to the alternate watering site by District Staff for the purpose of site visits, evaluation and promotion of the Alternate Watering Program.
  • Indemnify and save harmless the CD from any and all actions, claims, suits, damages, injuries or other loss no matter how arising as a result of the construction, operation or maintenance of this project.

Conservation District Responsibility

  • Provide subsidization of 75% of the total eligible submitted paid receipts to a maximum of $5,000.00.
  • Request applicant’s permission prior to divulging any project details or information to public or other agencies.

General Terms and Conditions

  • Subject to the above terms, the Agreement shall become effective and shall be binding upon both parties until terminated;
  • If either party fails to meet the above mentioned responsibilities, the Agreement may be terminated by the other party via written notice;
  • Failure of Applicant to meet Applicant Responsibilities may negate his eligibility for other District programs.
